BRICS leaders adopt New Delhi Declaration to strengthen Global South cooperation
During the BRICS summit held in New Delhi from September 11 to 13, member nations adopted the New Delhi Declaration. The summit, held under India’s chairmanship, focused on a strategic message of “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the assembly of leading developing nations, warning that rising geopolitical tensions and increasing global conflicts are having a negative, far-reaching impact on ordinary people. Modi called for deepened cooperation and increased support across the Global South.
The expanded BRICS bloc, which now includes 11 members representing approximately half of the world’s population, aims to seek greater representation for developing countries in global institutions. Key outcomes from the summit include backing the increased use of local currencies in trade, developing stronger cross-border payment systems, and promoting cooperation on food security.
