BRICS+ Legal Forum convenes in New Delhi to discuss rule of law

The 11th BRICS+ Legal Forum convened in New Delhi, focusing on the theme ‘Rule of Law Frameworks and Institutional Capacity Building for Economic Resilience, Innovation and Sustainability’. Ahead of the formal inauguration, a 60-member international delegation visited the Supreme Court of India, where they interacted with Chief Justice Surya Kant and toured the National Judicial Museum and Archive.

During the forum, Chief Justice Surya Kant introduced the concept of ‘Nyaya-nomics’, or the economics of justice. He argued that sustained economic growth depends on strong, trusted institutions and consistent adjudication rather than just geographical advantages or natural resources. He noted that consistent legal processes reduce transaction costs and create a level playing field for market forces.

The forum, hosted by the Bar Association of India, aims to strengthen legal cooperation across BRICS+ jurisdictions. Key discussion areas include cross-border dispute resolution, artificial intelligence governance, climate finance, digital trust, and international investment law.
