BRICS security advisers convene in Delhi on terrorism, cyber and supply‑chain threats

The 16th meeting of BRICS national security advisers was held in New Delhi on 23‑24 June, bringing together senior security officials from India, China, Brazil, Russia and South Africa. Participants discussed a range of non‑traditional security challenges, including energy and food security, supply‑chain vulnerabilities, terrorism, the use of emerging technologies by extremist groups, cyber security and climate‑driven instability. The meeting reviewed the work of the BRICS anti‑terrorism joint task force and the information‑and‑communication‑technology security group, reaffirming a commitment to share intelligence and strengthen law‑enforcement coordination.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the advisers after the summit, stating, "बदलते वैश्विक माहौल में ब्रिक्स की भूमिका बहुत अहम है।" The delegates also voiced support for India’s upcoming 2026 BRICS presidency and held bilateral talks, such as between India’s NSA Ajit Doval and his counterparts from China, Iran, Brazil, Ethiopia and South Africa.

The summit underscored the bloc’s aim to enhance practical cooperation, bolster the capacities of member states and address shared threats in a coordinated manner.
