BRICS Security Ministers Convene in New Delhi, China’s Wang Yi Attends

Senior officials from the BRICS grouping met in New Delhi on 22‑23 June for the 16th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisors and High Representatives on National Security. India, holding the 2026 rotating presidency, hosted delegations from China, Russia, Iran, Brazil, South Africa and other members under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”

China’s foreign minister and Politburo member Wang Yi arrived at the invitation of Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, joining Russia’s NSA Sergei Shoigu and Iran’s deputy secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Nezamipour. The agenda focused on global and regional security challenges, traditional and non‑traditional threats, and preparations for the BRICS summit later in the year. Organisers highlighted the meeting’s role in shaping the summit’s security agenda amid broader geopolitical developments, including recent US‑Iran diplomatic steps.

The gathering reflects continuing dialogue between India and China, building on prior high‑level contacts and signalling a cooperative stance on regional stability.
