India's Nitin Gadkari Leads BRICS Transport Ministers' Declaration on Sustainable Mobility in Nagpur

The third BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting was held in Nagpur, Maharashtra on July 11‑12, 2026 under India’s 2026 BRICS chairmanship. The ministers of the five BRICS nations unanimously adopted a joint declaration that creates a common framework for cooperation on sustainable transport, logistics, rail research and low‑carbon mobility. The declaration covers circular infrastructure, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, transport decarbonisation, urban mobility hubs, supply‑chain cooperation and the establishment of a BRICS Railway Research Network.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari thanked the delegations and highlighted India’s recent infrastructure achievements, including the world’s second‑largest road network, extensive expressways, electrified railways, high‑speed rail projects and maritime initiatives. He urged deeper BRICS collaboration to build transport systems that are cleaner, safer, smarter and more resilient.

Gadkari also promoted the expansion of bike‑taxi services, saying the model has created employment for an estimated 35 million young Indians, with drivers earning around Rs 25,000 per month. He called for the model to be adopted nationwide, citing its potential to generate jobs and support entrepreneurship across the country.
