Bridgestone launches campaign to return to Formula 1 in 2029
Japanese tire manufacturer Bridgestone is preparing a bid to return to Formula 1, potentially challenging Pirelli’s current exclusivity. Following its recent success in securing the tire supply contract for Formula E, Bridgestone Motorsport has initiated a campaign aimed at the next major tender cycle.
Company representatives have reportedly attended recent Grand Prix events in Singapore and the United States to engage with Formula 1 leadership. Bridgestone is working to develop a competitive proposal that includes both technical improvements and significant commercial investment, including potential sponsorship.
A change in suppliers could only occur from 2029 onwards, as Pirelli’s current contract is set to run through the end of 2027, with a possible extension through 2028. Bridgestone has a significant history in the sport, having served as a regular supplier starting in 1997 and holding exclusive rights during various periods before its departure after the 2010 season.
