Bridgestone to become sole tire supplier for Formula E
Bridgestone has announced its return to FIA World Championship motorsport as the sole tire supplier for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, effective from the 2026/27 season through 2030. The announcement was made during a global premiere in Rome, where the company unveiled its new POTENZA GEN4 tire technology.
The new tires are specifically engineered to support the upcoming GEN4 electric racing cars, which feature permanent all-wheel drive and a peak power output of 600kW (approximately 815hp). These vehicles are expected to reach top speeds of 335km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 1.8 seconds.
To manage these high performance levels and varying weather conditions, Bridgestone is introducing two specifications: the standard POTENZA GEN4 for dry conditions and the POTENZA GEN4 for TYPHOON TYRE for heavy rain. The development emphasizes sustainability, with the tires utilizing 65% recycled or renewable materials, including rice husk-derived silica and carbon black from end-of-life tires. Manufacturing processes for these tires will utilize 100% renewable energy.
