Brightline parent entities file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Certain parent entities of the Brightline high-speed rail service have filed for prearranged Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New Jersey to facilitate a financial restructuring. The company is managing approximately $5.5 billion in debt, having lost more than $2 billion since 2017.

Despite the filing, Brightline Trains Florida—the division that operates the Miami-to-Orlando service—did not file for bankruptcy. Consequently, train operations between Miami and Orlando are expected to continue as usual without schedule changes. A group of stakeholders has committed $490 million in new long-term capital to support the restructuring, though the deal awaits judicial approval.

Brightline has reported recent growth, with revenue increasing by 17 percent and ridership up 14 percent through the first eight months of 2026 compared to the previous year. The company is currently looking to expand service to Tampa and add a station in Cocoa.
