BRILHO Program brings clean energy to 4.8 million people in Mozambique

The BRILHO Program has concluded its operations in Mozambique, having provided clean energy solutions to more than 4.8 million people since 2019. The initiative focused on expanding energy access outside the national grid through solar systems, mini-grids, improved cookstoves, and productive use equipment.

Financed by the governments of Sweden and the United Kingdom and implemented by the Dutch organization SNV, the program mobilized over $78 million in private financing for climate action. By June 2026, the project supported more than 491,000 families and approximately 62,000 businesses.

Socioeconomic impacts included the creation of over 2,600 full-time equivalent jobs and increased income for nearly 400,000 women. Additionally, more than 43,000 women gained access to formal financial services. Environmentally, the program contributed to avoiding or reducing more than 1.6 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
