BRILHO Program clean energy implementation in Mozambique

The BRILHO Program, an initiative implemented by the Dutch organization SNV and funded by the governments of Sweden and the United Kingdom, has concluded its operations in Mozambique. Since its inception in 2019, the program focused on expanding clean energy access through off-grid solutions, including solar systems, mini-grids, and improved cookstoves.

The program successfully mobilized over $78 million in private climate finance and supported the deployment of more than 950,000 low-carbon technologies. These efforts provided energy solutions to approximately 4.8 million people, including 491,000 families and 62,000 businesses.

Socioeconomic and environmental outcomes included the creation of over 2,600 full-time equivalent jobs, increased income for nearly 400,000 women, and access to formal financial services for 43,000 women. Additionally, the initiative contributed to reducing or avoiding more than 1.6 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Estevão Pale stated that the program demonstrated how risk-mitigation mechanisms can attract private investment to remote communities.
