BRILHO Programme mobilises $78M in private climate finance for Mozambique

The BRILHO Programme has mobilized over $78 million in private climate finance to expand clean energy access in Mozambique. Since its inception in 2019, the initiative has benefited more than 4.8 million people by promoting off-grid energy solutions such as solar systems, mini-grids, and improved cookstoves.

Funded by the governments of the United Kingdom and Sweden and implemented by the Dutch organization SNV, the programme has supported the deployment of over 950,000 low-carbon technologies. These efforts have contributed to the creation of more than 2,600 full-time equivalent jobs and helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 1.6 million tonnes.

Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Estevão Pale noted that the programme's success demonstrates how appropriate policies and risk-mitigation mechanisms can attract private investment to expand electricity access in remote communities.
