Brindisi industrial reindustrialisation moves forward with €10 bn proposals
Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso has pushed Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin to free land around the former Enel “Federico II” coal plant in Cerano, Brindisi, and to release the MASE for adjacent sites. A coordination committee chaired by Urso and prefect Luigi Carnevale is finalising a programme agreement for the area.
At a meeting of the inter‑ministerial committee, 35 investment proposals for the Brindisi industrial zone were presented, valued at more than €10 billion and projected to create over 2,000 jobs. Eleven projects are already advanced, involving €589 million and 512 jobs.
The broader transformation of Eni‑Versalis sites in Priolo, Ragusa and Brindisi received a funding boost, with total investment rising from €2 billion to €2.5 billion. Uiltec, representing chemical workers, urged immediate training programmes for about 300 supply‑chain employees.
Urso also met with Roberta Angelilli, the Lazio regional vice‑president and government commissioner for Civitavecchia’s reindustrialisation, agreeing on a new phase to make land in that area available for industrial use.
