Briosco council adopts new urban plan as Italy debates nature‑restoration mapping

The municipal council of Briosco (Italy) approved a new variant of its General Urban Plan (PGT). The plan focuses on regenerating disused sites such as the former Nastro Verde, Core and cartiera areas, simplifying zoning rules, expanding public services and green spaces, and improving mobility with new pedestrian‑cycle pathways, including a €390,000 sidewalk between Capriano and Fornaci. Council assessor Domenico Perego highlighted the aim to make development flexible and sustainable while reducing soil consumption.

At the national level, the Institute for National Urban Planning (Inu) warned that the EU‑mandated Nature Restoration Plan (PNR) cannot rely on satellite‑derived datasets alone. Inu argues that municipalities must precisely identify protected urban green areas through cadastral and land‑use data and incorporate them into local planning variants. The institute stresses that accurate local mapping is essential to meet the EU regulation’s goal of halting the loss of urban green cover and restoring ecosystems.

Both the Briosco PGT and Inu’s guidance illustrate Italy’s broader effort to align local urban development with the EU’s nature‑restoration objectives.
