Brisbane 2032 reveals first emblem and stadium construction progress

Preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games have reached new milestones regarding both branding and infrastructure. In Cairns, retired swimmer Ian Thorpe and Paralympian Grant Patterson unveiled the first piece of the official Games emblems. The golden, ray-like design is part of a multi-day regional tour intended to drive tourism and statewide engagement across Queensland.

Simultaneously, a joint venture between BESIX Watpac and John Holland has emerged as the frontrunner to construct the 63,000-seat Brisbane Stadium at Victoria Park. The consortium has progressed to the final stage of negotiations in the early contractor involvement process, moving past the Built-Sacyr partnership.

The stadium project, designed by Cox Architecture and Azusa Sekkei, is a central component of the Games' infrastructure. While the project has faced some controversy, Queensland Premier David Crisafulli stated that the government remains focused on delivering infrastructure within the $7.1 billion agreement with the commonwealth. Construction is expected to begin in late 2027.
