Brisbane dogs mauled man in park attack
A 37-year-old man is recovering in critical condition at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital after being mauled by two dogs in Chermside's Seventh Brigade Park on Friday. The victim sustained significant lacerations to his face, arms, and legs while running.
Queensland Police reported that officers were forced to discharge their service firearms to subdue the animals after initial attempts to control them failed. Following an extensive search involving Polair aerial surveillance, both dogs were located. One was captured and euthanised, while the second was found at a residence in Wavell Heights.
Brisbane City Council has confirmed it will issue a destruction order for the animals, which were described as bulldog-crosses. The owner, Layla Evans, was arrested on Saturday on unrelated charges. She stated the dogs were protective and had escaped from the tent in which she was living. The council noted the dogs had not been previously declared dangerous. Police are reviewing the use-of-force incident in accordance with standard procedures.
