Brisbane infrastructure projects advance with new bridge funding and designs

Infrastructure developments are progressing in the Brisbane region through two distinct bridge projects. The Brisbane City Council and the Federal Government have each committed $1 million to update the business case for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting Toowong and West End. This project aims to link the Kurilpa peninsula with Toowong railway station and the Regatta ferry terminal to accommodate significant population growth, with nearly 100,000 people expected to live in the surrounding suburbs by 2046.

Separately, the Queensland state government has revealed its preferred design for a new four-lane bridge to Bribie Island. The project intends to double the capacity of the existing crossing, which will be repurposed as a dedicated path for pedestrians and cyclists. Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg indicated that the work is expected to be completed before the 2032 Olympic Games. Community consultation for the Bribie Island project is scheduled to remain open until the end of November.
