Brisbane regional infrastructure developments

Overview

Infrastructure works and planning are progressing across the Brisbane region. As part of the $110 million ‘Operation Smooth’ initiative, the Story Bridge is scheduled for a three-week closure from December 27 to January 18 to facilitate major resurfacing, structural deck maintenance, and waterproofing.

In addition to maintenance, new bridge projects are advancing. The Brisbane City Council and the Federal Government have each committed $1 million to update the business case for a pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting Toowong and West End. Meanwhile, the Queensland state government has announced a preferred design for a new four-lane bridge to Bribie Island, intended to double crossing capacity before the 2032 Olympic Games.
