Lachie Neale to join Collingwood after Brisbane Lions departure

Lachie Neale has officially confirmed his departure from the Brisbane Lions to join Collingwood as an unrestricted AFL free agent. The 33-year-old midfielder, a dual Brownlow Medallist and three-time premiership player, has reportedly signed a three-year deal with the Magpies worth approximately $1 million per season.

Neale’s move follows a challenging year involving personal difficulties and a highly publicized marriage breakdown. Despite interest from several clubs, including West Coast and Fremantle, Neale chose Collingwood. Brisbane list manager Dom Ambrogio expressed gratitude for Neale’s eight seasons of contribution, while Lions chairman Andrew Wellington offered a light-hearted sledge regarding the move during the club’s awards night.

In addition to the transfer news, the Brisbane Lions are facing leadership changes as coach Chris Fagan has announced he will step down from his role despite having a year remaining on his contract, following the club’s historic three-peat of premierships.
