British Columbia communities receive wildfire relief and emergency preparedness funding

The Salvation Army has expressed gratitude to the Central Okanagan community for its support during the recent wildfire season. The organization, alongside businesses and community members, provided aid to those impacted by the Bradley Creek, Quilpituk, and Bald Range wildfires. Relief efforts included serving over 5,000 meals and providing more than $75,000 in practical assistance, such as emergency relief grants, clothing, and hygiene products. Volunteers contributed over 500 hours of service across the region from Penticton to Vernon.

In a separate initiative, the British Columbia Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness has announced more than $1.3 million in funding through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF). This funding supports 29 projects aimed at improving evacuation route planning and public notification systems. Beneficiaries include the District of Sicamous, which will receive $29,916 for evacuation planning and tabletop exercises, and the Neskonlith Indian Band, which will receive $40,000 to strengthen readiness in high wildfire risk areas.
