British Columbia candidates announce school board election bids

Several candidates have announced their intentions to run for school board positions in British Columbia.

Candy Ashdown, the current chair of the Langley School District board, has joined the ‘Langley Strong’ slate for the upcoming October local elections. Ashdown is seeking to address tensions between the school board and the Langley Township council, specifically regarding the suspension of a long-standing joint land acquisition program for schools and parks. She has expressed a desire for improved cooperation and communication between the two governing bodies.

In a separate development, Kelli Sullivan has announced her candidacy for a second term as a School District 22 trustee representing Coldstream. Sullivan’s platform focuses on student achievement, managing district finances amidst declining enrollment, and advocating for sustainable provincial funding. During her first term, she was involved in modernizing board governance and developing the district’s Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy.
