On August 5 2026 the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) announced that evacuation orders for the Boston Bar area and surrounding locations – North Bend, Canyon Alpine, Fishblue Lake, Scuzzy Creek south of Boston Bar, Nahatlatch and North Boothroyd – have been downgraded to evacuation alerts. Residents may return home if they choose, although 46 properties in the Hells Gate, Spuzzum and Sawmill Creek areas remain under order. Highway 1 stays closed for a 63.5‑km stretch between Toll Road and Jackass Summit, so the only road access is a northern route. Provincial Emergency Support Services will continue until the morning of August 8, and a boil‑water advisory remains for FVRD‑served water users while private wells must be tested. The Red Cross will provide cleaning kits, and Chaumox Landfill will operate special hours on August 5. The downgrade does not apply to First Nations communities, which are advised to follow their own governments. The measures come as the Brunswick Complex wildfires continue to burn – the Brunswick Creek fire at 7,817 ha and the Ainslie Creek fire at 40,599 ha – with smoke affecting aviation.
