British couple on hunger strike and political prisoner denied care in Tehran's Evin prison

Lindsay and Craig Foreman, a British couple sentenced to ten years on espionage charges, have been on hunger strike in Tehran's Evin prison for more than seven weeks. They have each lost around 14–16 kg, have been denied medical examinations, and have not received medicines, eyeglasses, books or hygiene items sent by the British embassy. Communication is limited to their lawyer, and they remain barred from contacting family or each other. The couple were arrested in January 2025 while traveling through Iran by motorcycle, and their convictions were upheld on appeal in June 2025. British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper has condemned the sentences as unjustifiable.

Siamak Amini, a former political prisoner, is also being held in Evin. He suffers from an autoimmune disease and severe osteoporosis, but has been denied his required therapeutic injection for over a year and lacks regular medical check‑ups. A June transfer to Taleghani Hospital was cut short after he refused to wear the prison uniform, and he was returned to prison with a fractured rib. Arrested in August 2024, Amini is serving a four‑year sentence for “assembly and collusion” and “propaganda against the regime,” along with bans on organizational membership, smartphone use and foreign travel.
