British couple detained in Iran lack regular family contact

The family of a British couple detained in Iran reports that Lindsay and Craig Foreman have not had regular contact with relatives, despite previous assurances. The couple, originally from East Sussex, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on espionage charges which they deny.

Following hunger strikes lasting 93 and 84 days respectively, the couple was reportedly promised regular family contact, but the family claims this has not materialized. They are now calling for an urgent meeting with Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband to discuss a strategy for their release and to request more frequent consular visits.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) stated that the wellbeing of the couple is its ‘maximum priority’ and noted that officials have been working to provide assistance, including ambassadorial visits to the prison.
