Finlay Tarling dies in Volta a Portugal crash at age 19 FAST-MOVING

British cyclist Finlay Tarling, 19, has died following a serious accident during the eighth stage of the Volta a Portugal. The incident occurred on the route between Melgaço and Fafe, specifically near Arcozelo in Ponte de Lima.

Reports indicate that Tarling, a member of the NSN Development Team, was involved in a head-on collision with a light goods vehicle, identified by some sources as a Renault Kangoo, which was traveling in the opposite direction and was not part of the race convoy. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash.

In response to the tragedy, race organizers and the Portuguese Cycling Federation neutralized the stage for the remaining 20 to 23 kilometers and canceled the scheduled podium ceremony as a sign of respect and mourning.

Tarling, a rising talent from Wales and a former international track competitor, was the younger brother of professional cyclist Joshua Tarling. The cycling community and Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro have expressed deep condolences to his family and teammates.
