British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron marks one-year anniversary of Air India crash

On June 12, 2026, the UK High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, visited Ahmedabad to commemorate the first anniversary of the Air India Flight 171 disaster that killed 260 people, including 52 British nationals.

Cameron laid a wreath at the crash site, expressed condolences to victims' families, and praised the diplomatic team’s round‑the‑clock consular assistance.

Air India announced that interim compensation of ₹25 lakh (about £21,000) has been paid to 96 % of families of the deceased and to most injured on the ground, while final compensation remains under process.

The Tata Group, through the AI‑171 Memorial and Welfare Trust, has provided ex‑gratia payments of ₹1 crore per deceased family, with 91 % of families receiving them, and the airline continues to return personal belongings to relatives.

The official investigation into the crash is nearing completion, and families await its findings.
