British infant dies after cardiac arrest in Canary Islands pool

A baby from the United Kingdom was found unconscious in a hotel pool on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands on the morning of 15 June. Emergency responders performed CPR and the child was air‑lifted by helicopter to the University Hospital Mother and Child on Gran Canaria, where intensive care staff attempted to treat a cardiac arrest and severe neurological damage. Despite these efforts, the infant died several days later.

Sebastian Kintana, president of the Canary Islands Maritime Safety Organization, expressed condolences to the family and urged parents to closely supervise young children around water. Police investigations into the circumstances of the incident remain ongoing.
