British toddler dies after pool accident on Mallorca holiday
Three‑year‑old Eleri Ellesmere, a resident of Newport, South Wales, drowned in a swimming pool at Villa Francisca near Pollenca, Mallorca, on the evening of 24 June 2026. Her parents, Joe and Cerys, pulled her from the water and performed CPR before she was taken to Son Espases Hospital in Palma. Despite intensive care, she was pronounced dead the following day. A Gwent coroner’s inquest identified mechanical asphyxiation by drowning as the provisional cause of death and adjourned the hearing to April 2027. The family described the tragedy as “every parent’s worst nightmare” and launched a fundraising page for funeral costs.
