Brittany residents target Parisian tourists with vandalism

Residents in the Brittany region of France have expressed growing hostility toward tourists from the Paris region, leading to several incidents of vandalism and verbal abuse. In Plobannalec-Lesconil, vehicles with Paris registration plates were targeted with graffiti and scratches, including messages such as ‘Parigot, dehors’ (Parisians, out) and ‘Non au Parisien’. Mayor Loïc Le Fur condemned these acts, stating that the spirit behind the vandalism was deeply shocking.

Similar tensions have been reported in other coastal towns. In Plogoff, a sign reading ‘Parisians get out!’ was placed on a public motorway, while in Penmarc'h, locals have used graffiti to express anti-tourist sentiments. The mayor of Penmarc'h, David Le Berre, noted that while the incidents are shocking, the seasonal population surge—which increases the town's population from 5,600 to approximately 17,000—places significant pressure on local services and infrastructure.
