Britten-Norman begins ground testing of first UK-built Islander
Britten-Norman has commenced ground testing for the first Islander aircraft to be fully manufactured in the United Kingdom since the company repatriated its production lines to Bembridge on the Isle of Wight.
The aircraft, a BN2B-26 model, was rolled out on July 30, 2026, following the successful application of electrical power the previous day. The testing phase is a precursor to scheduled flight tests in September 2026. Once testing and customer preparations are complete, the aircraft is slated for delivery to the Falkland Islands Government Air Service (FIGAS).
This milestone marks a shift from previous manufacturing processes where major assemblies were produced overseas before final assembly in the UK. To support the reshored production, Britten-Norman has invested in new machinery and facilities, resulting in a workforce increase of over 40%. The company confirmed that a second airframe is already in production and components for subsequent aircraft are being manufactured to establish a continuous production cadence.
