Britten-Norman UK aircraft manufacturing repatriation

Overview

Britten-Norman has transitioned its Islander aircraft manufacturing back to the United Kingdom, specifically to Bembridge on the Isle of Wight. This follows the repatriation of production lines from Romania in 2023.

In late August 2026, the company began ground testing for the first BN2B-26 model manufactured entirely from individual components in the UK. By early September 2026, the aircraft successfully completed its maiden test flight.

The aircraft is currently undergoing a flight testing programme and is intended for delivery to the Falkland Islands Government Air Service (FIGAS). To support this manufacturing shift, Britten-Norman has increased its workforce from approximately 100 in 2024 to around 180, with plans to reach a production capacity of eight aircraft per year within the next two years.
