Britten-Norman Islander completes first UK-built test flight

Britten-Norman has successfully completed the maiden test flight of its first Islander aircraft built entirely from individual components on the Isle of Wight. This milestone marks a significant return to full-scale manufacturing in the United Kingdom, following the relocation of production from Romania to Bembridge in 2023.

The aircraft is currently entering a flight testing programme and is destined for the Falkland Islands Government Air Service. Once testing and final preparations are complete, it will be delivered to the South Atlantic to serve as a transport link.

The company reported that its workforce has grown from approximately 100 employees in 2024 to around 180. Britten-Norman aims to scale production at the Bembridge facility to reach a capacity of eight aircraft per year within the next two years. A second airframe is already progressing through the production line.
