Brnazama hosts 71st Dječja alka traditional competition
The 71st Dječja alka (Children's Alka) was held in the Vučkovići hamlet in Brnazama near Sinj as part of the ‘Dani Alke i Velike Gospe’ manifestation. The traditional competition, which features young participants running the course without horses, drew numerous locals and visitors.
Seven-year-old Matej Vučković, known by the nickname ‘Malta’, was named this year's winner. Other notable participants included ‘Bumbar’, who won the Bar competition, and ‘Bedžica’, who became the alaj-čauš after Saturday's event. Nineteen participants competed, all sharing the Vučković surname.
Minister of Demography and Migration Ivan Šipić attended the event to support the young participants. He emphasized the importance of preserving such traditions for demographic renewal and the survival of Croatian regions, stating that these manifestations demonstrate a strong future for the Cetina region.
