Sinjska Alka traditional competitions in Croatia
Overview
The Sinjska Alka tradition, a UNESCO-recognized knightly tournament in Croatia, continues through various commemorative events. The 311th Sinjska Alka was held in Sinj to honor the 1715 victory over Ottoman forces, attended by high-ranking Croatian and Bosnian-Herzegovinian officials.
Following the main tournament, the 71st Dječja alka (Children’s Alka) was held in the Vučkovići hamlet near Sinj. This competition for young participants, held without horses, serves as a means of preserving regional traditions. Minister Ivan Šipić attended the event, noting the importance of such manifestations for the demographic renewal and survival of the Cetina region.
