Brno expands climate‑controlled tram fleet with 40 new Škoda 45T units
The Brno public‑transport operator reports that about 57% of its vehicles now have air‑conditioning, with trams and trolleybuses reaching 77% and older tramcars only 27%. In June the city completed a purchase of 40 fully climate‑controlled Škoda ForCity Smart 45T trams, a 2.6 billion‑CZK investment funded partly by 1.57 billion CZK in state subsidies. The new trams, each 31 metres long, low‑floor and capable of carrying 233 passengers, are intended to replace older KT8 and T6A5 models.
To celebrate, a record‑setting convoy of the 40 trams travelled a 2.4‑kilometre route through the city, a showcase of the fleet modernization and the municipality’s focus on passenger comfort and ecological standards.
