Brno highway intersection expansion forces weekend road closures and traffic delays
The ongoing expansion of the D1/D2 highway junction in Brno will cause extensive traffic disruptions over the weekend of 12‑14 June. One lane of each direction on the D2 segment will remain open while bridge girders are installed, limiting the motorway to a single carriageway.
Complete closure of Kaštanová street is also scheduled for Saturday and Sunday to allow installation of a sleeve on a bridge pier. Drivers will be diverted via Hanácká, Průmyslová, Těžební, Olomoucká, Černovická and Hněvkovská streets, resulting in routes up to three times longer.
Road authority spokesperson Lucie Trubelíková said the restrictions are necessary for safe construction of the new bridge components and will remain in place until the work is finished, with the overall project expected to be completed by November 2027 at a cost of 3.2 billion CZK.
