Summer roadworks trigger widespread traffic closures across Czech Republic and Slovakia

Roadworks and related infrastructure upgrades are causing extensive traffic interruptions in several Czech towns and in eastern Slovakia during the summer season. In Zlín, partial closures of Hradská and Vodní streets and a major closure of the main entry road from Otrokovice are in effect, with further restrictions expected from early July. Zábřeh faces a full closure of Indrova street until mid‑October, while Brno’s Kšírova street is undergoing a water‑pipe replacement that will keep the road fully closed and partially restricted until the end of September. The D2 motorway near Brno will see two consecutive night‑time full closures over a weekend in early July, accompanied by a temporary closure of the adjacent river‑side cycle path. In the South Bohemian region, repairs on I/24, I/20 and other routes around České Budějovice will involve partial closures and a shuttle‑bus system. Jihlava’s 17. listopadu street is fully closed for a year‑long reconstruction of water and sewer lines, with detours and temporary changes to public‑transport routes. In Prešov, Slovakia, a key intersection will be completely closed for the summer, affecting cars, buses, cyclists and pedestrians. These coordinated works aim to modernise aging infrastructure but require drivers to plan alternate routes and expect delays.
