Broadcom launches VMware Private AI Cloud amid rising licensing costs

Broadcom has introduced VMware Private AI Cloud, a service designed to integrate enterprise private cloud and AI infrastructure. Announced at the VMware Explore conference, the service aims to address three primary AI cost drivers: hardware capital expenditure, operational complexity, and token economics. The offering utilizes VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9 and includes features such as NVMe memory tiering and cluster-wide storage deduplication to reduce hardware costs, alongside token monitoring tools and enhanced GPU tracking to optimize resource usage.

Concurrently, the long-term impact of Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware is surfacing as organizations reach the end of legacy multi-year contracts. The transition toward subscription licensing, product bundling, and a streamlined portfolio is leading to significant increases in licensing costs for many businesses.
