Broadcom's VMware licensing hike and AI‑security upgrades drive enterprise migrations

Broadcom has raised VMware license fees following its acquisition, causing a sharp cost increase for many enterprise customers. The higher fees are prompting organizations to evaluate migration to alternative hypervisors or cloud platforms.

At the same time, Broadcom announced new security, performance and automation features for VMware Cloud Foundation aimed at defending private clouds against AI‑assisted attacks. The updates add a guided three‑stage vDefend workflow, on‑premises malware sandboxing, air‑gapped threat‑intelligence updates, and API protection for Avi Load Balancer, with reported throughput improvements up to 75 Gbps.

HPE senior vice‑president Jim Odrisio highlighted that customers are now focused on cyber‑threat resilience and AI strategy, noting the need for robust data governance and rapid recovery capabilities. Broadcom’s vice‑president Umesh Mahajan emphasized that fragmented security can no longer protect against AI‑fueled threats, and that the new tools aim to reduce deployment times from months to weeks.
