Brookfield completes $3 bn Oaktree acquisition, retains Inter ownership
Brookfield Asset Management announced the completion of its purchase of the remaining 26% of Oaktree Capital Management for roughly $3 billion, bringing its stake to 100% and valuing the whole fund at about $10 billion. The deal finalises a partnership that began in 2019 and integrates Oaktree’s credit platforms with Brookfield’s global investment business, expanding Brookfield’s presence especially in the United States.
Oaktree continues to own the Italian football club Inter Milan. While the fund has been exploring a possible sale of the club after three years of direct management, Brookfield said the change in control will not affect Inter’s current management or ownership structure. Oaktree has reported two consecutive years of profit and is progressing with its stadium project, aiming to strengthen the Inter brand worldwide.
Key figures from the transaction include Howard Marks, who will serve as co‑chair of Oaktree while remaining on Brookfield’s board, and Brookfield CEO Connor Teskey, who highlighted the expanded credit solutions the combined platform will offer institutional and private investors.
