Brooklyn jogger declared brain dead after random stabbing attack

Katie Suarez, a 28-year-old woman training for the New York City Marathon, has been declared brain dead following a violent attack on a Brooklyn waterfront path. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30, near the intersection of Bay Parkway and Cropsey Avenue in the Bath Beach neighborhood.

Suarez was jogging along the Shore Parkway Greenway when she sustained multiple stab wounds to the neck. Her father discovered her gravely injured on the path after losing contact with her. She was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital, where she was initially listed in critical condition before being declared brain dead.

The NYPD is investigating the assault as a potentially random attack, though no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made. Investigators have deployed aviation, K-9, and drone teams to assist in the search for evidence. Local residents and runners have expressed fear regarding the safety and lighting of the popular recreational path.
