Brooklyn jogger Katie Suarez dies after random stabbing attack

Katie Suarez, a 28-year-old Brooklyn College graduate and bank teller, has died following a violent stabbing on a waterfront path in Brooklyn. Her family reported that she was declared brain dead and taken off life support on Monday, three days after the attack.

The incident occurred on Friday evening along the Shore Parkway Greenway near Bay 17th Street. According to the NYPD, Suarez was jogging along the Belt Parkway waterfront when she was stabbed in the neck. Investigators believe the assault was a random and unprovoked attack, noting that her cellphone and jewelry were left untouched, suggesting it was not a robbery.

Suarez’s father discovered her bleeding on the path at approximately 8:16 p.m. after she failed to meet her family at a prearranged location. Police described a large crime scene with a blood trail spanning roughly 150 feet. Detectives are currently using K-9 units, drones, and scuba teams to assist in the search for the suspect. While no surveillance video has been recovered from the immediate area, authorities are attempting to use license plate readers to identify drivers who may have captured the incident on dash cameras.
