Brown Mogotsi to launch new bail bid on August 25

North West businessman Brown Mogotsi is scheduled to make a fresh bail application on August 25. Mogotsi faces charges of perjury, unlawful possession of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice in connection with an allegedly staged assassination attempt in Vosloorus.

This upcoming legal move follows several previous unsuccessful attempts to secure release, including a failed bid in the Johannesburg High Court. Mogotsi’s defense intends to base this application on new facts, specifically regarding a new residential address.

The legal proceedings have been marked by disputes over access to the state’s case docket. While the defense previously argued that redacted witness statements and missing documents prejudiced their ability to prepare, it has been confirmed that the state has now handed over the requested materials. However, the court has maintained orders to protect the identities and addresses of witnesses for security reasons, following allegations that one witness was approached by associates of the accused.
