Overview
Businessman Brown Mogotsi is facing charges of perjury, unlawful possession of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice related to an allegedly staged assassination attempt in Vosloorus.
Following previous unsuccessful attempts to secure release, Mogotsi scheduled a new bail application for August 25, 2026, based on new facts including a new residential address. On August 25, the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court postponed the hearing until September 1, 2026. The postponement allows Correctional Services to investigate an alleged escape plot. According to an affidavit from Colonel Alfred Odendaal, officials received a tip that Mogotsi planned to escape court cells by disguising himself in a correctional official’s uniform. As a result, Mogotsi was reportedly placed in leg irons to prevent flight.
