BRS leader T. Harish Rao criticizes Telangana government over welfare and privatization

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T. Harish Rao has leveled several criticisms against the Congress-led Telangana government regarding welfare spending and economic policy.

Addressing the Telangana Turaka Kasha Welfare Association, Rao accused the government of failing to meet promises made to minorities, farmers, and the poor. He specifically noted that the current administration is spending ₹1,300 crore on minority welfare, significantly lower than the promised ₹4,000 crore. Rao also claimed that overseas scholarships for minority students have dropped from ₹1,550 crore during the BRS tenure to just ₹14 crore in the last three years.

In a separate open letter to Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Rao urged the national leader to advise the state government against privatizing key power utilities. He expressed concern over a reported proposal to divest 26% equity in TG Transco through an IPO, warning that such moves could threaten the control of strategic public infrastructure. He questioned whether the government intends to follow similar paths with TG Genco, Singareni Collieries Company Limited, and various Discoms.
