BRS opposition to Telangana government policies

Overview

Leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have criticized the Congress-led Telangana government regarding its management of welfare funds and economic policies.

Initially, BRS leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail accused the state government and the AIMIM of failing to adequately address minority welfare. Sohail alleged that the government spent only approximately 38.7% of allocated funds for minority welfare schemes over the last two financial years, citing an expenditure of Rs 1,972.17 crore against an allocation of Rs 5,100.97 crore. He also raised concerns regarding delayed scholarship and fee reimbursement payments.

Following these claims, BRS leader T. Harish Rao expanded the criticism, stating that the administration is spending ₹1,300 crore on minority welfare, which he noted is significantly lower than the promised ₹4,000 crore. Rao also highlighted a sharp decline in overseas scholarships for minority students. Additionally, Rao issued an open letter to Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, urging him to advise the state government against the privatization of key power utilities, specifically citing a reported proposal to divest 26% equity in TG Transco.
