BRS women MLAs allege Telangana Police assault at Assembly

Female legislators from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party have approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Women (NCW) in New Delhi to report alleged assaults by Telangana Police. The lawmakers claim they were manhandled, physically restrained, and humiliated while being prevented from entering the State Assembly.

Former minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and MLA V. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy detailed specific allegations, including being pulled by the hair and having their clothing pulled during the scuffle. The BRS delegation expressed frustration that no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the police despite the incident occurring over 100 hours prior, while cases were instead filed against the BRS legislators.

Sabitha Indra Reddy accused the state government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of directing the police action and failing to address the incident within the Assembly. The BRS leaders are seeking a comprehensive and impartial inquiry into the conduct of the police and the violation of the rights of elected representatives.
