Bruchköbel and Gotha set new cycling mileage records in Germany's Stadtradeln

In the German town of Bruchköbel, 418 cyclists in 23 teams rode a combined 111,144 kilometres during the three‑week Stadtradeln campaign in May, completing 6,175 rides. The senior team posted the highest distance (20,874.7 km) and Dirk Leonhardt topped the individual ranking with 2,042.1 km. Mayor Sylvia Blum honoured the teams and cyclists at the opening of the Hof‑ und Gassenfest.

In the neighbouring state, the Landkreis Gotha saw more than 1,600 participants log 295,348 kilometres between 1 – 21 June, equivalent to seven trips around the Earth. Eighty‑three teams competed, with Regelschule "Bertha von Suttner" achieving the most kilometres (24,391 km) and Gymnasium "Gleichense" fielding the largest team of 176 riders. The effort resulted in an estimated CO₂ avoidance of 48 tonnes, praised by Landrat Onno Eckert and climate manager Jan Heinichen.
