Overview

The 2026 Stadtradeln climate-bike challenge concluded across various German cities, continuing to drive engagement in bicycle traffic and climate protection.

Regional results showed widespread growth. In Fulda, approximately 2,500 participants traveled 547,000 kilometers, with district data showing a 7% rise in registrations. The Pfaffenhofen district saw 1,732 cyclists cover 415,458 kilometers, an increase of nearly 100,000 kilometers from 2025. In Teublitz, participants set a new record by cycling 53,188 kilometers, while the Saarpfalz district reported a 50% increase in performance from its Landratsamt team.

In the Bergstraße district, 4,723 participants across 268 teams avoided 125 tons of CO2. The Ansbach district saw 1,016 participants cover 248,325 kilometers, reducing CO2 by an estimated 40 tons. Other notable performances included Ludwigshafen, where 625 participants completed 323,395 kilometers, and Brühl, where 631 participants cycled 122,741 kilometers.

Educational institutions also played a role. Gymnasium Sottrum participated for the first time, with 83 students covering 17,199 kilometers. In Weiterstadt, the Hessenwaldschule became a ‘Bikeschool’ through a partnership with Bikepool Hessen to integrate cycling into its curriculum.

While many regions reported growth, officials in Rasdorf noted uncertainty regarding the initiative’s future following the removal of state funding from Hessen.
