Bruin Agbayani joins New York Mets in trade
Nineteen‑year‑old infielder Bruin Agbayani was traded from the Minnesota Twins to the New York Mets ahead of the MLB trade deadline. The deal sent veteran left‑handed reliever A.J. Minter to Minnesota in exchange for Agbayani and fellow prospect Billy Amick. Agbayani, a sixth‑round pick in the 2025 draft, had appeared in 10 Class‑A games for Fort Myers before a shoulder injury sidelined him. He is the son of former Mets outfielder Benny Agbayani, who played for New York from 1998 to 2001 and praised his son’s opportunity to join the organization where his own legacy began. The Mets, sitting near the bottom of the National League East, added Agbayani, who was Hawaii’s Gatorade Player of the Year and All‑State Player of the Year, to a farm system that now ranks him as its No. 22 prospect.
