New York Mets 2026 trade deadline moves

Overview

In late July 2026 the Mets added 19‑year‑old infielder Bruin Agbayani from the Twins, sending veteran reliever A.J. Minter to Minnesota. A few days later the club entered the August 3 deadline as sellers, trading reliever Huascar Brazobán, pitcher Luke Weaver, Brooks Raley and other veterans to Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and additional clubs. In return the Mets received eleven prospects, including infielder Jefferson Rojas, shortstop Sammy Stafura, outfielder Émilien Pitre and pitchers Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin. President of baseball operations David Stearns said the moves were aimed at rebuilding the farm system.

The Mets kept both catchers, Francisco Alvarez and Luis Torrens, rejecting trade offers that demanded top‑prospect packages. The roster overhaul opened a spot for left‑handed reliever Jefry Yan, who was promoted to the major‑league bullpen alongside debutant Nate Lavender. In the first game after the changes New York defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6‑2, with Lavender posting a scoreless debut and the lineup hitting three home runs.

The team remains at the bottom of the National League East and is projected to miss the postseason for a second straight year, but the influx of young talent and the revamped bullpen are presented as the foundation for a future turnaround. Analysts also noted the potential of left‑hander Zac Thornton for a future rotation role.
